The Approach: Coaching as a Reflective Partnership
Career coaching is a supportive relationship aimed to facilitate exploration of topics and themes connected to work related life. Our careers are important elements of our lives taking up a huge amount of our available time and exert great influence on our wellbeing, as well as the social factors that enable our ability to live up to our potential.
My approach to career coaching is informed by Career Construction Theory—the idea that we don't 'find' a career, we build one through the stories we tell about our lives. I work as a reflective partner to help you navigate a landscape that is increasingly fluid and unpredictable.
Rather than just matching your skills to a job description or refining your CV, we work collaboratively to understand how your work shapes your self-identity and mental well-being. My background in humanistic psychology ensures that our sessions focus on finding a 'meaningful connection' between your professional path and your wider life.
Some themes we may focus on
Drawing from the research, we might explore:
- Narrative Career Construction: Helping you link your past experiences to your future goals to create a coherent professional identity.
- Navigating Complexity: Developing strategies to manage the "overchoice" of 36,000+ job titles and the shifting nature of the innovation economy.
- Career Adaptability: Building the psychological flexibility needed to manage redundancies, career breaks, or self-employment.
- Happenstance Learning: Leveraging unplanned events and "curiosity" as opportunities for growth rather than sources of anxiety.
